Reuters cited a source familiar with the facility’s operations as saying that the explosion triggered a fire at the 26,000-barrel-per-day isocracker unit of the refinery.
Following the fire, the plant’s operations have been stopped.
?The Wall Street Journal quoted a spokesman as saying in an emailed statement: "The fire is out, all personnel are accounted for, and there were no injuries."
Currently, the company is assessing the cause and impact on the operations.
A fire department spokesman Matt Bridges said: "It’s going to be a long time for that (isocracker) to ramp up again."
In addition to producing gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, residual fuels and petrochemical feedstocks, the refinery produces approximately two billion gallons of refined petroleum products annually.
Separately, Philadelphia Energy Solutions also stopped operations of its 335,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery following a fire at 200,000-bpd crude distillation unit on Saturday in the larger Girard Point section of the plant.
A company spokeswoman told Reuters that no injuries were reported following the fire, which began when a valve exploded on the unit.
