The green energy plans key component includes Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), which provide funding for electricity generated by a renewable source.

The company will buy an equal amount of RECs on the consumers’ behalf, for every megawatt hour Star Energy customers use.

The additional RECs support the ongoing investment in clean, renewable energy as well as movement to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, achieve energy independence in America.

Star Energy Partners chief executive officer Tony Banks said: "Our customers can help make a difference without having to switch electricity providers, making it easy for them to reduce their carbon footprint.

Through Star Energy, customers have the option of two green energy plans, one of which includes the Local Plan to enable customers to choose RECs thath specifically support Ohio-certified renewable energy.

The National Plan enables customers to choose the RECs that support wind-generated power supplied across the nation.

Banks said: "By offering these green energy plans with RECs, we are showing the commitment of Star Energy Partners to renewable energy technology and production that will sustain the earth’s resources for future generations.

"This is consistent with our overall strategy and mission to bring a variety of energy efficiency products and services to our customers."
