The exploration well drilling is scheduled to start this month in production licence (PL) 375, which the company operates in Block 34/4 of the Norwegian Sea.
Drilling will be conducted using the Borgland Dolphin semi-submersible drilling rig and would take around 154 days, depending on discovery success.
Suncor Energy has participated in various bidding rounds for exploration licenses, both operated and non-operated, since establishing its Stavanger office in Norway.
The Beta Statfjord was discovered by the company in 2009, along with its first operated well in Norway in PL 375.
The discovery was appraised and tested in 2010 and 2012, respectively, with continuing appraisal work assessing its future potential.
The company has a balanced portfolio of assets and significant growth prospects and plans to achieve production of one million barrels of oil equivalent per day across its operations.
