The company has been selected by ATCO Electric, an Alberta-based, investor-owned electric utility company, to provide project and construction management services for the project.

The project included constructing 353km of 240kV and 144kV transmission lines and more than 1,200 new transmission towers.

Work also included constructing six new substations and upgrading 12 substations.

ATCO Electric Transmission Division president Sett Policicchio said, "The construction of the HRTD project has helped us meet the increased demand for electricity in the Hanna region due to industrial growth in the area."

The transmission line passes through protected pasture, native grasses, and wetlands that are also popular for wildlife breeding grounds.

To minimize the impact, where the transmission line accounts for 60% of the area, the project team has developed and implemented a mobile application to ensure that the field team had customized information about accessing land parcels and environmental regulations.

Bechtel will now commence the construction of a 485km of 500kV high voltage direct current transmission line for ATCO Electric’s Eastern Alberta Transmission Line project.
