A consortium between Hyundai Engineering, Hyundai E&C and LABIX won an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract, while the other contract was awarded to Bechtel for project management consulting services.

LABIX is a joint venture formed in 2012 by Thaioil’s subsidiary Thai Paraxylene and Mitsui for the LAB project.

Thaioil said the project is the first and only fully integrated LAB project in Thailand and southeast Asia.

The facility will have a designed production capacity is 100,000 metric tons per annum, and is expected to begin commercial operations within 2015.
