The Brazilian oil company would pay R$1.14bn ($350m) of its share of the bidding amounts for the Entorno de Sapinhoá, Peroba and Alto de Cabo Frio Central blocks for which it has secured the operator role.

Petrobras, in a statement, said: “Similarly to the 14th bidding round under the concession regime, held in September, Petrobras acted selectively in the auctions carried out today, reflecting its strategic vision to recompose its exploratory portfolio, which seeks to maintain the relationship between reserves and production and ensure the sustainability of the company’s future oil and gas production.”

The Brazilian oil firm had won the Entorno de Sapinhoá pre-salt block where it has a stake of 45%. Its partners in the block include Shell with a stake of 30% and Repsol Sinopec with a stake of 25%. Petrobras’ share of the block’s bidding is R$90m ($27.8m).

Entorno de Sapinhoá, located in the centre of the Santos Basin, is a unitized area to the Sapinhoá field which is also operated by Petrobras.

In the Peroba block, Petrobras’ contribution to the bid is R$800m ($247m). It will hold a stake of 40% in the Pre-salt Santos Basin alongside partners BP (40%) and CNPC, a subsidiary of CNODC which will hold the remaining 20%.

The third block won by Petrobras is the Alto de Cabo Frio Central where it will have a 50/50 partnership with BP. Petrobras’ share of the bid for the block is R$250m ($77.2m).
