Of the 17 projects approved by EPE, 16 are small projects with combined installed capacity of 376MW.
The only large project accepted was the 400MW Sinop project located near the Teles Pires River in Mato Grosso state of Brazil, reported HydroWorld.com.
Around dozen large hydroelectric plants requested for inclusion in the auction, but only Sinop obtained the preliminary environmental license necessary for auction.
EPE was quoted by the website as saying that other hydropower projects could qualify to participate for the 13 December 2013 A-5 auction if they obtain the required documents.
With the inclusion of 17 projects, the total number of projects in the A-5 auction is 36 with combined installed capacity of 3.5GW.
According to the A-5 rules, projects purchased in the auction must begin operations by August 2018.
