Under the contract, Alstom will construct FGD plant to treat flue gases of 2 OP130 and 3 OP230 steam boilers of station numbers K1, K2, K3, K6, K9 at the CHP facility.

Work on the desulphurisation plant is scheduled to be completed in early 2017.

The plant will leverage Alstom’s NIDTM semi-dry desulphurisation technology, which features a modularised and cost-effective design.

Veolia Energia Lódz investment and maintenance director Janusz Cieslakowski said: "The FGD plant, upon completion, is expected to keep SO2 and dust concentration in flue gas below respectively 200 mg/Nm3 and 20 mg/Nm3 respectively, thus complying fully with European Directive regulating industrial emissions (IED), which would enable us to continue the operation of all steam boilers of CHP 3 beyond 2016 and in the same time significantly reduce our environmental footprint in Lodz region."

The recent contract has been signed between Veolia and Alstom one year after a contract was signed for another desulphurisation plant at Poznan.

The new FGD plant will feature a six-module NIDTM of the same type as the four-module NIDTM which is being installed at Poznan.
