Located six miles southeast of Tusayan, the Canyon mine has been facing lawsuits from community members, and environmental groups, to protect lands from mining threats.
Shaft-sinking activities at the mine were halted in 2013 due to lawsuits and drop in uranium prices.
As the uranium prices have rebounded, the company intends to resume main shaft, ventilation shafts and underground development activities at the project.
Energy Fuels Resources spokesman Curtis Moore was quoted by Associated Press as saying: "It’s still pretty low, but it’s certainly recovering and headed in the right direction."
The US Forest Service, which approved the project in 2012, was sued by the Havasupai Tribe and environmental groups for violating federal law and failing to discuss with the community regarding the approval for the project.
In January 2012, the US government imposed a 20-year ban on uranium mining claims across one million acre land in Grand Canyon National Park, to protect water resources from potential contamination.
