The projects will be implemented through NTPC/NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) in three phases, with the first phase targeting 3000MW.
With some support from the government, the 5,000MW of the second phase will be decided upon the implementation experience of the first phase. The 7,000MW in the final phase will not secure any financial support from the government.
Under the bundling scheme, 1,000MW of 3,000MW capacity will be developed in Andhra Pradesh while the balance 2,000MW capacity will be offered to the remaining Indian states.
The first phase is expected to cost approximately INR180bn ($2.9bn), and will be funded by project developers.
The 15,000MW solar projects are expected to increase the pace in achieving grid tariff parity for solar power while reducing kerosene and diesel consumption in the country.
By 2022, India intends to generate about 100,000MW of power from its renewable resources from the current capacity of 3,000MW, reported Reuters.
