Exelon has returned Limerick Generating Gtation Unit 1 in Pennsylvania, US, to full power after a shutdown last week.
The operators turned off the Limerick Unit 1 February 23 when a valve on one of the station’s main steam lines was closed.
The restart follows upgrades to the valve even as technical experts are investigating the cause of its closure.
Located next to the Schuylkill River in northwest of Philadelphia, the plant received license renewal from the
Nuclear Regulatory Commission earlier this year.
The renewal will enable Limerick to operate for another 20 years from its original 40-year operating licenses, which were to expire in 2024 for Unit 1 and 2029 for Unit 2.
The Limerick Generating Station can generate 2,345MW of clean and reliable electricity, which is enough for approximately two million homes.
