Awarded by the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), the award represents first renewal of the 2008 contract, which has the potential for further extension periods, up to a total life of 17 years, subject to performance.
Comprising three nuclear specialists, including AMEC, AREVA and URS, NMP owns the Sellafield Site Licence company, Sellafield, which manages and operates the reprocessing and waste storage facilities at Sellafield on its behalf.
AMEC European Clean Energy business president Clive White said the consortium will use the experience gained over the last five years to ensure safe and effective conduct of the program delivering value for money to the customer and the UK taxpayer.
”We will be focused on accelerating the clean-up of the high hazard legacy ponds and silos, which are acknowledged as the priority area,” White added.
The Sellafield site includes the former nuclear power stations Calder Hall and Windscale in West Cumbria, and an Engineering Design Centre at Risley in Cheshire, UK.
