The installation contractor, Fugro Seacore (Australia) is installing the pile foundations at the project to be located at Garden Island off the coast of Western Australia and is likely to complete during the fourth quarter of 2013.
Fugro will use the foundation installation vessel Ensung, which has been arrived to the Australian Maritime Complex in Henderson, to carry out the installation work.
The project calls for the installation of four to eight submerged Cylindrical Energy Transfer Oscillating (CETO) units, subsea pipelines, hydraulic conditioning equipment and an onshore power generation facility.
The Western Australian and Australian federal governments have provided a total of A$387,810 to complete foundation milestone at the project under their LEED and ARENA grants respectively.
Keppel business development manager Michael Dawson said that once operational, the project will be the world’s first wave energy project equipped with Carnegie’s CETO technology.
