The INR400m (£4.06m) center is a 21,786sq ft and 118ft tall, electrical-noise-free infrastructure and was constructed with sophistication and intricacy.
The research center facilitates reliable and economic new product development for the global UHV/EHV (extra high voltage) markets particularly in countries like India, South America and Africa, spanning 800kV EHV to 1,200kV UHV power transmission systems.
The centre will focus on R&D of high power sub-station equipment including circuit breakers, gas insulated switchgear (GIS), transformer bushings, instrument transformers like the current transformers, inductive voltage transformers and capacitive voltage transformers (CT/IVT/CVT), surge arresters and disconnectors with enhanced capabilities and at competitive prices.
Equipped with 1,600kV AC and 3,600kV, 360kJ impulse test systems to conduct all the dielectric performance tests under IEC, ANSI standards and other international product standards, the centre will also facilitate developmental research tests on new dielectric systems and products.
The infrastructure will help in the local manufacture of UHV products, saving costs on imports to Indian customers.
Crompton Greaves CEO and managing director Laurent Demortier said the centre will provide the company with the required tools to effectively compete in the growing UHV/ EHV market segments.
"The CG centre in Nashik, which has been providing medium voltage (MV) and high voltage (HV) switchgear for customers all around the world, will fuel CG’s growth by producing a full range of EHV and UHV switchgear up to 1200KV," Demortier added.
