Under the $155m contract, Abengoa will construct several overhead transmission lines, including 160km of 230kV AC transmission line from the Granite Canal substation to the Bottom Brook substation on the island of Newfoundland.
The company will also build a142km, 200kV HVDC from Bottom Brook to Cape Ray and 23km of 5kV grounding line from Bottom Brook Converter Station to Indian Head.
In Nova Scotia, Abengoa will build 46km of 200kV HVDC transmission line from Point Aconi to the Woodbine Substation and 41km of 5kV grounding line from the Woodbine Converter Station to Big Lorraine.
The project is expected to be completed in two years, and create 200 jobs during construction
The Maritime Link Project aims to transmit renewable energy from Newfoundland and Labrador to Nova Scotia. The project will connect the island of Newfoundland, through a 170km subsea cable, with Nova Scotia and the North American electricity system.
