As part of the deal, KBR will provide ROSE technology to support the construction of Kashima refinery, which is scheduled to complete by the end of 2015.
The ROSE technology will be used to separate large amounts of deasphalted oil (DAO) from residue feed.
DAO from the ROSE units is expected to contain lower amounts of asphaltene, which will help to reduce catalyst consumption and will enhance performance of the downstream hydroprocessing units.
KBR Technology president John Derbyshire said the world-leading ROSE technology has again been selected by JX for its Kashima refinery after successful experience with ROSE at the Mizushma refinery.
"I am confident that our technology design will deliver greater production capacity, enhance profitability of the refinery and enable JX Corp to achieve its strategic business objectives," Derbyshire added.
