Valued at SAR3.2bn ($850.6m), the contract covers construction of substations in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Qassim, Arab News reports.
Saudi Electricity Company CEO Ali bin Saleh Al-Barrak said the new projects will greatly assist in the economic development of the country.
”The projects will raise the level of electrical services provided by SEC and increase its reliability by providing stable and uninterrupted usage,” Al-Barrak added.
The power consumption in Saudi Arabia has increased from 1,940.72kWh in the 1980s to a current level of 8,022.45kWh, according to SEC records.
Saudi Energy Efficiency Center (SEEC) director general Naif Al-Abadi said earlier this year that there is an ”alarmingly high rate of energy consumption in Saudi Arabia.”
Construction of the substations is expected to complete in the next 15 months.
