The new line will evacuate electricity from the proposed thermal power plant at Mputa oil field in Hoima, The Independent reports.
The new 220kV line will also receive a loan of $54m from Norway.

Uganda finance minister Maria Kiwanuka was quoted by New Vision as saying that the French assistance will broaden electricity to the western axis.

"The high voltage transmission line will provide the required transmission back-bone of power to the Albertine Graben region," added.

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company (UETCL) will oversee the construction of the transmission line, which is expected to be completed within 20 to 30 months.
