To be operated by a special purpose company, Kagoshima Mega Solar Power, set up by Kyocera and six other companies in July 2012, the plant will sell its output to Kyushu Electric Power under Japan’s feed-in-tariff (FIT) program.
The special purpose company, along with Takenaka and Kyudenko, has developed the project under a financing plan devised by Mizuho Corporate Bank.
The majority shareholder Kyocera supplied solar modules and was responsible for part of the construction, as well as to provide maintenance services for the system with Kyudenko.
The project, which is built on a land owned by IHI with a total investment of $275.5m, is estimated to generate around 78,800MWh of clean power annually, which is enough electricity to power around 22,000 average households and curb about 25,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
