Cargill has bought the idled plant, which has the capacity to grind 150,000 bushels of corn daily, from corn processor Tate & Lyle in 2011 and had spent two years to modify and expand the plant.
The Fort Dodge bio-refinery campus, which will create more than 100 jobs in Webster County, will produce ethanol and other bio-based products including dextrose, SweetBran feed for cattle.
The company claims the plant will provide the base load corn grind for the campus and will also support additional business growth in the future.
Iowa Governor Terry Branstad said the investment shows Cargill’s continued commitment towards Iowa’s agriculture sector.
"The Fort Dodge facility will create over 100 jobs in Webster County and the addition of CJ will lead to further job growth in Fort Dodge," added Branstad.
