A consortium which is to be led by VA-Tech, a subsidiary of the Austrian company VA-Alpine, has signed a deal with PowerGen for construction of the Csepel II power plant in Hungary. The deal was signed with PowerGen subisidary Csepeli Aramtermeloe RT.
Under the terms of the deal, the Austrian consortium, which includes Elin Energieversorgung, Austrian Energy and VA MCE, will take a $112 million share of the $140 million project. The remainder will go to GE.
The gas-fired combined cycle plant will have a capacity of 390 MWe, and will also supply 125 MWth of heat to Budapest. It is due to start operating in 2000.
