The floating platform has been formally named BlueTEC by the Mayor of Texel, the Netherlands as BlueTEC.
Designed to hold tidal turbines below the sea surface, the BlueTEC Tidal Energy demonstration platform will be installed near the island of Texel supplying clean electricity to the Dutch grid, and will commence electricity production before summer.
Targeted at remote locations worldwide, such as islands in Indonesia, Philippines and the Pacific, the first demonstration platform is the start of further development of higher capacity tidal energy platforms, to be deployed in large farms, the company said.
Bluewater new energy head Allard van Hoeken said: "Today’s ceremony puts us a step closer to our goal of putting an all-in-one tidal energy platform on the market and delivering clean, local and endless energy to the world."
The platform will remain offshore producing electricity for several years and will allowing the firms to test multiple turbines.
The BlueTec platform has been developed by Bluewater in collaboration with Damen, Van Oord/Acta Marine, Tocardo, TKF, Vryhof, NIOZ, Nylacast and Tidal Test Centre.
