The award represents third contract awarded by Ekna following two previous contracts for the Erbil and Sulaymaniyah power stations in northern Iraq.
Under the contract, the company’s subsidiary, GEA Energietechnik will supply two air-cooled condensers, which are scheduled to start operation in 2015.
GEA Heat Exchangers Segment president Christoph Michel said, ”We are pleased that we succeeded in convincing our customer by our previous good collaboration and our professional project management of the two previous projects.”
Operated by Mass Global, the gas turbine power stations in Duhouk, near the northern border of Iraq, will be converted to combined cycle power plants, similar to the two previous power stations.
The dry cooling systems, along with their minimal water consumption, are ideal for power plants in regions with dry climate and water shortage, as the air-cooled condensers liquefy the turbine steam using ambient air, helping the resulting condensate to remain in the plant’s water-steam cycle.
