Under the contract, Siemens will supply, install and commission 40 SWT-3.2-113 direct drive wind turbines for Grand Bend Wind Limited Partnership (LP), a partnership between Northland Power and two local First Nations, the Aamjiwnaang First Nation and Bkejwanong Territory (Walpole Island First Nation).
Located around 220km southwest of Toronto in Ontario, the 100MW onshore wind power project is expected to provide eco-friendly electricity to approximately 30,000 households in Canada.
Siemens is also responsible for service and maintenance of the wind turbines over a period of ten years for the project, which is scheduled to enter service in the first half of 2016.
Siemens Wind Power and Renewables Division market unit onshore CEO Thomas Richterich said: "Canada is one of the most important markets for us across the Americas.
"For the first time we will be supplying wind turbines for a Canadian project to Northland Power."
Siemens will manufacture all the 120 of the 55m-long rotor blades for the wind turbines at its facility in Tillsonburg, Ontario, with the construction work already underway for the site.
The Independent Electricity System Operator (formerly the Ontario Power Authority) has been awarded the Grand Bend a 20-year contract under Ontario’s Feed-in-Tariff scheme for renewable energy.
