New units for air-insulated medium voltage switchgear and instrument transformers were opened at its site in Brno and a substation automation systems facility near an existing ABB site in Trutnov.
ABB’s medium-voltage business unit will produce air-insulated switchgear, instrument transformers and sensors at the Brno facility, which also includes a service unit and research and development center.
Expected to increase the production of switchgear units by 25%, the facility will be fully automated and semi-automated lines for casting instrument transformers.
ABB Power Products division president and global head Bernhard Jucker said: "Brno is a major regional and global hub for ABB and this latest expansion in medium voltage products follows our high voltage products investment last year.
"The expansion will help us deliver products faster to our customers while ensuring the highest standards of technology and quality."
In addition to offering engineering and project management services and service support, the Trutnov facility will serve as the company’s largest European engineering center for substation controls and automation.
ABB Power Systems division president and global head Claudio Facchin said: "This new facility enables a significant expansion of our production capacity in Trutnov and supports the growth of our power grid automation business."
ABB currently has seven manufacturing facilities in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Trutnov and Jablonec nad Nisou, four research and development centers and two engineering centers.
