He added that the NTAMC project of POWERGRID will strengthen the monitoring the entire grid system of the country.

The Chief Minister of Haryana Shri Manohar Lal applauded POWERGRID in bringing to Manesar , a world class project which will help in improving power availability not only in Haryana but the entire country. He hoped that Haryana will get quality power and improve the living standard of the people .

About NTAMC:

National Transmission Asset Management Centre (NTAMC) a State-of-the-art technology in the field of power transmission located at Manesar, Gurgaon , Haryana.

To manage & control such a vast network POWERGRID decided, around three – year back, that information technology should be leveraged to maximise efficiency, bring about transparency in its operations & optimize utilization of its assets that are spread across the country. This resulted in the conceptualization of NTAMC Project.

Technologically the project constitutes of three very distinct areas as enumerated below:

SCADA for gathering of electrical data & control of the switchgear of sub stations like circuit breakers, isolators etc. spread all across the country right up to the DG sets & fire fighting system from NTAMC Control Centre.

RAS (Remote Accessibility System): Remote accessibility of relay for collection of data from disturbance recorder as well as from event loggers. Additionally the project also envisages provision of technology for remote configuration of substation IEDs as per the system requirement.

VMS (Video Monitoring System): Sub stations are also being provided with a battery of CCTV cameras that shall keep a close look on the substation switch yard & its premises. These cameras arealso remotely controllable from the NTAMC control centre. Access to the control centre is also being regulated through an access control system that which is being monitored in the control centres. The cameras have the facility of zoom, pan & tilt & all functions are remote controllable.

Challenge in the project also necessitated necessary alterations / additions in the substation architecture (some of these substations are as old as 30 years) enabling them with the requirement of remote operation.

In addition to the main control centre, 9 Regional Control centres are also in various stages of completion. These control centres shall be operating in a predefined hierarchical order with very clearly defined roles. Experts in various domains of power & associated systems shall be manning these sub stations on 24×7 basis as a result of which expert advice will be available to the engineers in far-flung sub stations & transmission line offices on regular basis.

Communication between the sub stations is on POWERGRID’s own telecom network. ERP is also being integrated to NTAMC so that it is also leveraged for efficient asset management & operational requirement of the system.

NTAMC Project, shall be a game changer not only for POWERGRID but also for the power sector of the country.

POWERGRID has developed a vast electrical network in last 25 years. POWERGRID’s transmission lines traverse through the most beautiful as well as the most rugged & hostile terrains of the country. They travel through the rugged Himalayas, vast tract of forests, marshes & deserts. Sub stations are also located accordingly.

From the time of its inception, the growth of the company has been phenomenal. Today it can proudly claim to own & operate more than 115,637 CKms of transmission lines, 192 sub stations with a transformation capacity of more than 231,709 MVA. This number is increasing at a rapid pace. Besides POWERGRID is also in the field of consultancy within & outside the country & owns & operates telecom network across 68 cities in the country.
