Awarded by BHE Renewables, an affiliate of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, the contract covers the supply and commissioning of 200 V110-2.0MW wind turbines for the 400MW plant, which is expected to increase Nebraska’s wind energy capacity by nearly 50%.
The deal also includes a five-year active output management (AOM5000) service agreement that aims to boost energy production.
BHE Renewables president and CEO Bill Fehrman said: "The Grande Prairie project will have a major impact on Nebraska’s economy and energy future while helping our customer, Omaha Public Power District, meet its long-term renewable goals."
BHE Renewables incoming OPPD president and CEO Tim Burke said: "When we announced a long-term power purchase agreement to buy 100% of the wind generation from this facility several months ago, our goal was to plan for the future and position OPPD to have more than 30% of our future retail generation come from renewable sources."
Deliveries under the contract are expected to commence in the second quarter of 2016, with project completion expected by the end of 2016.
the Grande Prairie wind project is anticipated to create about 350 temporary construction jobs and up to 15 onsite permanent full-time jobs.
Berkshire Hathaway Energy owns a portfolio of energy businesses including the US utilities PacifiCorp, MidAmerican Energy Company and NV Energy.
