The GE ProSolv Wax Inhibitor is designed to work in a variety of waxy crudes, and is based on characterization of the production fluids and environment. It is claimed to reduce capital and installation costs and improve return on investment.

At temperatures below the untreated wax appearance temperature, the inhibitor reduces the precipitation and deposition of wax, the company said.

The chemical is applicable in oil fields that experience operational issues due to the formation of waxes or viscous gels, and is particularly useful in onshore pipelines carrying challenging fluids in harsh environments.

GE Power & Water chemical and monitoring solutions general manager Kevin Cassidy said: "Our latest ProSolv Wax Inhibitor range was designed to protect crude oil and gas pipelines while ultimately decreasing overall operating and capital expenses and increasing production."

GE plans to offer the inhibitors for trial and pilot testing from June 2015.
