Three new 400 MW systems major plant nation's largest

Engineering group Alstom has won a €560 million contract for the construction of three new 400 MW generator units at the Shoaiba power station in Saudi Arabia on the Red Sea coast.

Alstom will be responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the boilers, steam turbines, alternators, and all auxiliary systems and equipment for the new units that have been commissioned by Saudi Electricity Co. The boilers are designed to use both crude and heavy oil.

The three new units will add to the eight already supplied by Alstom since 1998 and will make Shoaiba the largest power plant in the Middle East with an output of more than 4,400 MW.
