Being built on the river Alaknanda in Tehri/ Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, the greenfield hydro electric project features four units, each with a capacity of 82.5MW.

The project, being set up by Alaknanda Hydro Power (GVK Group), will utilize the waters of River Alaknanda by way of a diversion.
Power generated from the project is expected to result in reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Bhel is responsible for design, production, supply, installation and commissioning of four units of Francis turbines, generators, static excitation system, generator transformer, unit transformer and station transformer.

The company will also provide main inlet valve, digital governors, control and monitoring system, Busduct, associated station auxiliaries, as well as 400kV switchyard and electrical and mechanical balance of plant.

In Uttarakhand, the company is currently implementing a series of hydro power projects including 3x57MW Lata Tapovan project, 4x130MW Tapovan Vishnugarh project, 2X60MW Vyasi project and 4x111MW Vishnugarh Pipalkoti project.

Power produced from the project will be supplied to the Uttar Pradesh Governemnt under a power purchase agreement, 12% of it will be supplied for free.
