Denmark’s Environmental Protection Agency has signed the first joint implementation (JI) projects under the Kyoto Protocol that will see greenhouse gas emissions reduced in Russia.
Denmark has invested €20 million in Unified Energy System’s (UES) Siberian subsidiaries Khabarovskenergo and Orenburgenergo for a yearly saving of 1.21 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The small pilot projects are designed to illustrate the potential for JI in Russia and UES officials are said to have 20 additional projects currently out to tender in Europe.
