Under the contract, Mitsubishi will supply three large frame gas turbines for installation at Dominion Virginia Power’s $1bn gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plant, which will be built on a 1,143-acre site on the Greensville and Brunswick county line in Virginia.
The project, however, is subject to approval from the State Corporation Commission.
Mitsubishi will manufacture and assemble the three gas turbines at its Savannah Machinery Works in Georgia, US, for planned delivery by the end of 2018.
Developed by MHPS by applying proprietary technologies, the M501J is a 60Hz gas turbine. It can achieve an inlet temperature of 1,600?, which enables a rated output of 320MW when the gas turbine is operated alone, and some 460MW when it is part of a GTCC system.
Capable of generating enough electricity to power 400,000 homes at peak demand, the project is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs at the peak of construction and will become operational in 2019.
The station will receive natural gas through Williams’ Transco line and the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP).
Earlier, Fluor was selected by Dominion Virginia Power to serve as engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contractor for the power generation facility.
