Under the contract, SunEdison will install 17 rooftop solar systems on industrial corridors across Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Los Angeles counties.
Planned to be commissioned in 2016, the solar plants will generate clean, cost effective electricity to serve around 63,000 homes.
Power generated from the rooftop solar systems will be sold to SCE under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
The project is part of SCE’s efforts to modernize the grid in densely populated areas and decrease power interruptions during peak demand.
SunEdison Western USA distributed generation managing director Sam Youneszadeh said: "As this project demonstrates, solar systems can be sized and strategically located to provide maximum benefit to both the utility grid and California homeowners and businesses."
TerraForm Power plans to acquire these projects from SunEdison, while SunEdison Services will operate and maintain the power plants.
SCE is an electric utility that serves over 14 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
