Owned by Indian energy company National Thermal Power (NTPC), the project is being developed in two stages with 1,980MW in stage one and 1,320MW in stage two.
Under the contract, Bhel will design, engineer, manufacture, supply, install and commission the complete PCP package for the 3x660MW stage one of the project.
Bhel piping center and Trichy-valves division will design, manufacture and supply the power cycle piping equipment. The Power Sector Eastern Region will undertake erection and commissioning of the PCP.
The contract follows termination of a deal by NTPC with foreign contractorover delay in delivery of the supercritical boiler, including PCP.
Bhel has already installed and commissioned the supercritical boilers and turbines for the two units of the Barh STPP stage two in 2008.
The launch of the two units is in line with the country’s efforts to achieve self reliance in the field of supercritical technology.
