The two companies will initially form a joint venture for cleanup and closure of Hanford nuclear site of the US Department of Energy (DOE) in the Washington state.
Areva will contribute its engineering and operational expertise in the nuclear energy sector, while Kurion will use its technologies and expertise for the access, separation and stabilization of nuclear waste at the site.
The partnership aims to provide new technology solutions for nuclear waste, particularly for nuclear facilities which are undergoing decommissioning and cleanup in the US.
