Under the Rs179.5bn ($2.81bn) contract, Bhel will design, engineer, manufacture, supply, construct, erect, test and commission the 4,000MW Yadadri project.
Bhel will provide its in-house developed fuel flexible boiler for the plant to overcome the current uncertainty of coal supply.
Capable of firing the entire range of coal, the boiler will offer operational flexibility for uninterrupted generation by providing security against variation in design coal and the actual available coal.
Several teams will be launched by the two firms to accelerate the project on fast track basis.
Bhel will manufacture key equipment for the project at its facilities in Trichy, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Ranipet, Bangalore and Jhansi.
The company’s Power Sector construction division will undertake civil works as well as commission the equipment.
The Indian power manufacturer has so far commissioned 78% of coal-based power facilities in Andhra Pradesh, which was split into two states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana last year.
The deal follows a contract by TSGENCO to Bhel in December 2014 to build 800MW supercritical thermal power plant at Kothagudem.
In March, Bhel signed a deal with TSGENCO to construct 4x270MW Bhadradari TPS in Khammam, Telangana.
