Under the terms of €500m contracts, Siemens will develop the converter stations using its high-voltage, direct current (HVDC) Plus technology in Kent, UK, and Zeebrugge, Belgium. The stations will deliver 1000MW with a transmission voltage of 400kV DC.
Meanwhile, Japan’s Sumitomo Electric Industries subsidiary J-Power will design, manufacture and install the HVDC XLPE cable system.
The contract also includes fiver-year service and maintenance agreement.
Work under the contract is planned to be started later this year while the Nemo link project is scheduled to be commissioned in 2019.
Nemo Link board member Alan Foster said: "The use of this state-of-the-art cable technology allied to the very efficient converter stations will make Nemo Link the most innovative interconnector in Europe, bringing new supplies of competitively-priced electricity to the market."
Capable of supplying electricity to power 500,000 households, the Nemo subsea link will run 140km between Richborough on the Kent coast and Zeebrugge near the city of Brugge.
The Nemo Link project is expected to boost energy security in both countries as well as support the renewable energy integration.
