The 20-year energy supply contracts were awarded by the South African utility Eskom in the fourth phase of the country’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP) program.
EGP will invest €340m for the construction of the wind farms, including 142MW Soetwater and 138MW Garob, in areas of the Northern Cape Province.
Capable of generating around 1,000GWh a year, the new projects will significantly contribute to meet the energy demands in South Africa, and will be commissioned by 2018.
Enel Green Power CEO Francesco Venturini said: "South Africa, where electricity demand is still expanding rapidly and the economy is growing, with a stable regulatory and legislative framework, maintains its position as a strategic country for our company.
"We are ready to more than double our investment there, increasing it to more than €1.3bn from €600m."
The latest contracts bring the total capacity secured by the company in the fourth round of the REIPPPP tender to 705MW.
EGP is also developing 142MW Oyster Bay, 141MW Nxuba and 142MW Karusa wind projects, as part of the fourth phase.
