The company blamed fall in demand of coal and higher cost of mining and processing for the filing bankruptcy.

JW Resources said in its filing that it is facing difficulty in raising capital to keep the mines afloat which is operating coal mines in at least five Kentucky counties.

Coal companies across the US are facing tough time as thermal coal, used by power plants has reduced after the emergence of low-cost natural gas, and strict emission rules imposed by authorities.

In the week ended in May 29th coal miners only shipped 15.1 million tons of coal which was the lowest since July 1996, reported Bloomberg.

Prior to JW Resources, Patriot Coal filed for bankruptcy along with several other coal miners across the globe after the demand for the material reduced.

JW Resources claims that it owes creditors as much as $100m and after the finalization of Clean Power Plan by the Obama administration, the demand of coal from existing power plants is expected to further come down.
