Located on farmland approximately 45km south of Ballarat, Victoria, the Stockyard Hill wind farm (SHWF) will feature 149 wind turbines to produce electricity required to power 391,000 Victorian homes.

Under the contract, Zinfra, on behalf of AusNet Services, will complete construction of 70km of 132kV transmission line connecting the three Wind Farm Collector Substations to the greenfield terminal station at Haunted Gully.

Zinfra’s scope of work also include procurement for all the materials associated with the 132kV transmission line; and complete construction of the 500kV/132kV Haunted Gully Terminal Station including all civil, structural and electrical works.

The firm will also be responsible for the construction of the interface works and cut-over to re-align the existing 500kV transmission line (the main connection between VIC and SA) and connect the Haunted Gully Terminal Station.

Once completed, the wind project is expected to be the largest of its kind in the country.

Zinfra said that the preliminary works have already commenced on the project, which is expected to employ up to 100 people at peak times during the construction of the transmission line and terminal station.

The firm plans to use its transmission line crews, electricians and project management teams to deliver majority of the construction works.

Zinfra projects general manager Paul Birighitti said: “We are thrilled to be working on this significant project for AusNet Services, leveraging our core capability in the power sector, into the renewables sector.”

Employing approximately 1,500 people, Zinfra serves the utility sectors including power, gas, water, telecommunications and infrastructure.

The company provides a range of engineering, operations, maintenance and construction services. Its services include engineering and design, project management, construction, civil, maintenance and asset operations.
