Spread across three sites in undisclosed countries, the projects include a single largest battery installation of 17MWh.

The turnkey scope of work of Sterling and Wilson includes complete design, engineering, procurement, construction, and operations and maintenance (O&M) of a captive hybrid microgrid. The microgrid will be powered by solar, diesel and battery energy storage, said the EPC services provider.

Sterling and Wilson said that the project will power behind-the-meter clients in the educational sector.

The hybrid microgrid, which will be supported by the batteries, will provide microgrid integration to enable the educational institutions to get off the grid.

The company said that its proposed hybrid and energy storage solution is anticipated to generate a reduction of 137,170 metric tonnes of carbon footprint, which is equivalent to planting 3.5 million new trees.

Sterling & Wilson hybrid and energy storage CEO Deepak Thakur said: “We are extremely glad to have bagged our landmark first project in the hybrid and energy storage space, which not only consists of the largest battery installation in Africa till date, but also hopefully proves to be a marquee installation empowering future generations.

“We are confident of meeting the most stringent quality, safety and financial needs of our client given our combined global expertise of having delivered over 7GW of solar, diesel and gas based power plants on turnkey basis till date.”

Founded in 1927, Sterling & Wilson was known as Wilson Electric Works until 1971 when the Shapoorji Pallonji Group acquired a stake of 51% in the company.

It is an EPC solution provider operating in the infrastructure and energy sectors in India and outside of it. The company’s portfolio includes MEP, Co-Gen solutions, Transmission and Distribution, Turnkey Data Centers, Renewables and Diesel Generators.
