Steel River Group announced that its subsidiary, Steel River Solutions (SRS), has been selected as prime contractor for “Spread B”, a 65km section of Tidewater Midstream and Infrastructure’s 120km Pioneer natural gas pipeline project.

The company said that the construction at the project has started in December and is expected to employ up to 300 people at its peak, which is scheduled to continue through the first quarter of 2019.
SRS claims that it has demonstrated its technical capabilities and aptitudes in all areas of project execution, to win the 20-inch diameter pipeline construction project, through a competitive bidding process.
Steel River Group credits its unique indigenous inclusion ecosystem model as an important factor that helped securing the contract.

Tidewater will construct and operate the Pioneer natural gas pipeline, with an 11km lateral connecting to Sundance, which will have an initial throughput of 130 MMcf/d. The pipeline project is supported by a 15 year take or pay commitment from TransAlta.
Construction on the gas pipeline commenced in November 2018 and is expected to be fully operational by the second half of 2019.

The Pioneer pipeline connects the Tidewater owned Brazeau River Complex to TransAlta’s generating units in the Keephills and Sundance area.
In December 2018, TransAlta exercised its option to acquire a 50% ownership interest in the pipeline. TransAlta’s investment was subject to final regulatory approval of the lateral and licence transfers from Tidewater to the partnership.
