Lukoil Mid-East has awarded a framework agreement to engineering company SNC-Lavalin to provide project support services for West Qurna phase 2 oil field in Iraq.

As per the agreement, SNC-Lavalin is responsible for providing engineering, design activities, and project support services for the development of the Mishrif and Yamama formations of the West Qurna 2 oilfield.
The contract also includes training and continued professional development for local Iraqi professionals.

The company will execute the project in Iraq at the West Qurna phase 2 oilfield, as well as from the UAE.
Located 65km north-west of Basra in the southern part of Iraq, the West Qurna Phase 2 oilfield comprises three main stages including two for the Mishrif formation and one for the Yamama formation.
The Yamama and Mishrif formation’s surface facilities require major elements such as well pads, oil gathering flowlines, headers and trunklines, a central processing facility and its associated utilities and offsites.
Additionally, the required facilities include oil/gas/liquid petroleum gas export pipelines, additional storage tanks at an existing facility, power plant, water intake, and supply pipelines.
Earlier this year, Russian oil and gas firm Lukoil and Basra Oil inked a new development plan of West Qurna-2 field to increase production capacity to 480 thousand barrels per day by 2020.
The plan also aims to increase the production from the onshore oil field to 800 thousand barrels per day in 2025.
