SBM Offshore has entered into a contract with TotalEnergies EP Suriname, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, to manage operations and maintenance for the FPSO GranMorgu.
The floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel is part of the development project in Block 58, located 150km off the coast of Suriname.
SBM Offshore’s contract encompasses the operational readiness phase prior to initial oil production and guarantees services for at least two years post-production, with potential extensions.
The FPSO GranMorgu is integral to developing the Sapakara and Krabdagu fields in Block 58, holding an estimated 760 million barrels of recoverable reserves.
TotalEnergies is leading this venture with a 50% stake, alongside APA, which also holds 50%. The final investment decision (FID) on the GranMorgu development was announced by TotalEnergies in October 2024.
According to TotalEnergies, the FPSO is designed for a daily capacity of 220,000 barrels and is set to commence operations in 2028. The design mirrors successful units used in Guyana’s similar environmental conditions and allows for future satellite field connections, thus potentially extending its operational plateau.
FPSO GranMorgu will be built based on SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward programme, which is intended to reduce costs and optimise safety standards by standardising FPSO designs and modular construction.
Fast4Ward also engages vendors early in the process, aiming to cut supply-chain expenses and shorten construction timelines by up to a year.
At the heart of Fast4Ward is the multi-purpose floater (MPF) hull, an adaptable structure capable of supporting various configurations. The MPF can handle approximately 50,000 tonnes for operating topsides, offering extensive modularity to meet specific project requirements without hindering overall functionality.
Its design facilitates reduced topside complexity through efficient use of deck space.
SBM Offshore stated: “This contract reinforces SBM Offshore’s long-term strategic partnership with TotalEnergies and marks a significant milestone as SBM Offshore becomes the first FPSO operator in Suriname.
“It is a testimony to SBM Offshore’s focus on excellence throughout the entire project’s lifecycle, from the allocation of our eighth Fast4Ward MPF hull to our extensive experience in asset management supporting TotalEnergies’ operations.”
