The 130MW Yuncan hydro power plant in Peru has been inaugurated, in a ceremony attended by the country's President Alejandro Toledo Manrique.

The inauguration comes 21 months after the Peruvian government first awarded the contact to EnerSur, the Peruvian electrical company of Suez Energy International. EnerSur signed the 30 year ‘usufruct’ agreement for the plant with the Peruvian government in February 2004.

Yuncan hydro plant is located between the districts of Paucartambo and Huachón, in the region of Pasco, some 340km northwest of Lima. The project hosts three 44.5MW generators capable of an annual output of 901GWh/yr.
