Yingli Green Energy, a solar energy company, has secured a contract to supply 96MW of PV modules to the Jasper PV solar project located in Northern Cape Province of South Africa.

As an exclusive PV module supplier for the project, Yingli Green will provide more than 325,000 Yingli YL295P-35b multi-crystalline modules, which will be spread across 180 hectares.

In addition, the project will also be covered under Munich RE’s Option Cover as Yingli Green Energy has obtained Munich RE’s module performance warranty insurance.

The project owned by Jasper Power Company is being developed by a consortium comprising Iberdrola Ingenieria y Construccion, South African company Group Five and led by the US developer of utility-scale solar power projects SolarReserve.

Jasper PV Solar Plant was approved by the South Africa Department of Energy (DOE) in May 2012 as a part of second round of bids under the South Africa Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program (REIPPPP).

Yingli Green Energy chairman and CEO Liansheng Miao stated that the agreement is in line with company’s plan to extend clean energy across all emerging markets such as Africa.

"We are also delighted that our strategic alliance with Munich RE has enabled Iberdrola, with whom Yingli Green Energy has been collaborating in different projects worldwide since 2006, to reduce project investment risk that has helped to lower financing barriers," added Miao.
