The 320km long, 38in gas pipeline located 295km north of Balhaf liquefaction plant links block 18 to the Balhaf terminal on the Gulf of Aden and supplies gas to the country’s only LNG facility.

Yemen oil and minerals Minister Ahmed Dares was quoted by Reuters as saying that technical crew was immediately sent to the explosion site to repair the damage.

"The government is working to take a series of measures to secure the oil installations and to prevent any future acts or risk," Dares said.

Oil and gas pipelines in the country have been repeatedly damaged by certain anti-social groups and resulting in fuel shortage and reduced export income.

The attacks have increased in the last one year after anti-government protests resulted in power vacuum in the country.
