New York-based water technology company Xylem and Water Environment and Reuse Foundation (WE&RF) have renewed their partnership related to research.
The renewed research partnership can further extend the two organisations’ research commitment on water reuse, which will extend the previous three year research partnership in advancing the use of recycled water.
The commitment includes financial support along with in-kind contributions which can help in speeding development and implementation of innovative approaches in offering recycled water which can lead to increased adaption of sustainable water resource management practice.
The renewed partnership will help WE&RF to enhance and advance its water reuse research portfolio.
The Virginia-based research organisation says that Xylem is exploring advanced data analytics, utility analytics and infrastructure management research for water sector, after it had acquired Sensus, a company producing smart meters, network technologies and advanced data analytics solutions-provider.
Xylem North America Water Reuse Leader Keel Robinson said: “Our partnership with WE&RF represents an important element of our commitment to advancing water reuse as a critical means of addressing water scarcity and securing a sustainable water supply.
“Our advanced treatment technologies, including ozone-enhanced biologically-active filtration, ultraviolet disinfection, ozone oxidation, and advanced oxidation processes, demonstrate every day that wastewater can be purified to drinking water standards and reused safely.
“Our research partnership over the past three years has yielded some significant results which we are very proud to be a part of. We look forward to creating more benefits for the entire industry by advancing innovative technologies and solutions to reuse.”
Thanks to the partnership between the two oranisations, there were 13 research projects between 2014 and 2016, which included ozone/biologically active carbon, membrane filtration, reverse osmosis and advanced oxidation processes technologies.
The partnership also resulted in several peer-reviewed publications and workshops.
Xylem’s commitment sped up the adoption of reuse at its facilities in California and across the country including the aquifer recharge demonstration project as part of Hampton Roads Sanitation District’s ‘Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow’ (SWIFT) program in Virginia and the City of Altamonte Springs potable reuse demonstration facility in Florida.
