La Ola solar farm, which has been delivering 600kW onto the Maui Electric Company grid, will now utilize DPR to mitigate the output variability caused by change of weather conditions, and increase the capacity to the farm to 1.2MW, providing approximately 10% of the island’s electricity needs.
Xtreme Power’s Dynamic Power Resource smoothes and control the rate of change in renewable energy output, thereby creating a better quality power supply that can be utilized more abundantly without adverse impact to the grid.
Installation of the Dynamic Power Resource, which will enable La Ola solar project to generate 3 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year at full capacity, helping Aloha State meet its renewable energy goals as outlined in the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative, is scheduled for May 2011.
Xtreme Power CEO Carlos Coe said that the La Ola solar farm further demonstrates the company’s expertise in optimizing renewable energy projects throughout Hawaii.
“The DPR is already enabling higher penetration of modern wind energy projects as primary sources of electricity supply in Hawaii, and we are excited to be participating in a similar role on the La Ola solar project,” Coe said.
