The company will lay 2km of 33,000V underground cable and 11km of overhead line between its substations in Bishops Castle and Priest Weston, UK, to further safeguard supply reliability to approximately 5,000 customers.
WPD’s investment also aims to better accommodate any increased demands placed on the power network in the future for additional developments.
WPD distribution manager Andy Barton said the investment ensures that the company can provide a high level of service to the areas in the long term by improving the infrastructure and security of its electricity network.
"While this work is being undertaken, our aim is to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum," Andy added.
Morgan Sindall has been contracted for the cable laying works, while Amey will be responsible for construction of the overhead lines.
The project is scheduled to commence later this month for planned completion by September 2014.
